Personal Profile
Professional negligence
I defend claims for a wide range of professionals, with a particular interest in claims against independent financial advisers and lawyers. I also specialise in lender litigation, including claims against solicitors, surveyors and mortgage brokers. Across this spectrum, I deal with low value matters to claims that run into the many millions involving multiple parties.
Property damage
I have acquired expertise in property damage, employers’ and product liability, subrogated recovery actions and health and safety. Prior to joining Mills & Reeve in 2006, I was retained by one of the defendants in the Hatfield derailment prosecution, which was successfully defended.
I am a realistic and pragmatic insurance litigator. I provide clients with an early view on the merits of any claim to recommend that either a commercial approach be adopted to reach a speedy resolution, or to defend the claim. I have experience of, and very much enjoy, dealing with claims of a spurious nature, or challenging claims unsupported by evidence or any specificity to the allegations made. In some of these cases, I have successfully made applications for an early strike-out, with orders for costs. In other matters, the claims have been discontinued.
I am considered by clients as likeable and a pleasure to work with. I am said to be thorough in my approach and someone who provides practical and commercial advice. I enjoy a reputation for being able to deal with cases ranging in complexity, to deal with difficult litigants and to successfully identify claims to defend.
“Clients return to this firm time and again for its regional reach and the ‘experience, dedication and tenacity’ of the lawyers.” Chambers UK
