Michael Helfgott joined Taylor Wessing in 2002 and has been a partner since 2006. He has during this time acted for American Express, Honda and the London Eye as well as many other substantial property funds and leading entrepreneurs. He has recently been involved in the following matters:

Development and Investment

advising on the major acquisition of the St Johns Wood Barracks in London;
the development of Wantage Town Centre;
advising on all real estate aspects of the 2011 purchase of over 400 Waterstones book stores from HMV; and
investment purchases in 2010 and 2011 of major distribution warehouses let to Homebase and Tesco.
Hotel, Leisure and Sports

advising Chandos Lawn Tennis Club on the potential redevelopment of their existing site, consisting of a development by Barratt Homes of over 74,000 sq ft of new homes, and the relocation to and redevelopment of a nearby site for a new high class tennis centre designed by Hopkins Architects;
providing the advice for redevelopment of the Wadham Lodge football centre in East London;
acting for BDL Hotels in relation to many of their purchases and developments around the UK; and
acting in 2011 for Hesperia Hotels on the sale of their 212 room hotel in Victoria, London.
Refinancing and Restructuring – Banks and Borrowers

advising in the last 12 months or so on the financing and refinancing of in excess of One billion pounds of real estate assets in the UK and Germany;
Inward investment from China

advising ICBC on their purchase of new headquarter building adjoining the Bank of England in 2010;
advising the Agricultural Bank and CICC on their acquisition of premises in the City in 2010 and 2011.
Michael has been head of Taylor Wessing’s continuing education programme for real estate related matters since 2006 and regularly lectures on a range of legal topics.
