Nicola Elam is a senior lawyer based in our Manchester and London offices and focuses on regulatory matters. Nicola worked at the European Commission (DG Internal Market) before qualifying into the competition team at Slaughter and May in 2002. Nicola subsequently worked for 3 years at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London, where she specialised in antitrust.
Her experience includes advising major UK companies on cartel investigations by the EC and OFT (including participating in dawn raids and subsequent leniency applications), as well as undertaking merger filings before the European Commission and UK competition authorities. She has extensively advised UK corporations on the competition aspects of commercial transactions and has designed and implemented bespoke competition law compliance programmes, including undertaking mock dawn raids. She has particular expertise in the chemicals sector and advises extensively on the competition law implications of REACH.
