Saleem Fazal

Saleem is head of the firm’s Real Estate Disputes group.

Saleem has experience of all types of disputes arising in relation to leasehold and freehold land. This includes rent reviews, dilapidations claims and service charge disputes. Saleem also has particular expertise in dealing with real estate issues arising in insolvency situations.

He also puts together and implements land clearance strategies for developers. Saleem's advice is often sought prior to break options being exercised and also lease expiry in order to maximise the position and to avoid problems in the future. Saleem also pursues professional negligence claims arising from real estate transactions.

Saleem's experience and transactions include:

dealing with points of law arising during the course of rent reviews;
advising administrators on how to retain/dispose of properties in order to assist in the sale of the insolvent company;
acting for numerous developers of shopping centres and other commercial buildings – specifically dealing with land clearance;
acting for landlords/tenants in relation to dilapidation claims both during and after expiry of leases;
acting for a landlord where the tenants of an office building disputed the level of balancing service charge; and
advising tenants on their liability pursuant to leases which have been assigned.
Saleem’s expertise is recognized by the latest editions of both Chambers and Legal 500 legal directories. In Chambers (2013) Saleem is described as ""very charming"" and ""very focused on the commercial realities of his clients."" while the Legal 500 (2012) recommends Saleem Fazal for his ""succinct advice"".
