I am part of the firm’s insurance group and specialise in defending claims against professionals. This includes claims against lawyers, surveyors and financial services professionals. My involvement ranges from helping professionals respond to correspondence from claimants or their lawyers about possible claims to conducting the defence of proceedings.
One of my highlights was when we were successful in striking out a claim made against one of our clients. The claim was being brought by a foreign company who were no longer trading and there was a strong possibility that, had my clients been successful at trial, they would not have recovered any of their costs from the claimants because they did not have any assets. This would have meant that even if the claim had been defeated, my clients would have spent a vast amount of irrecoverable defence costs. We therefore applied for an order requiring the claimants to provide security for my clients’ costs in the event that we won. We obtained this order but the claimants did not comply with it. Their claim was therefore struck out resulting in the end of the claim and a great saving in legal fees.
I am regularly told that our lawyers are friendly, approachable and provide constructive commercial advice. We are also valued for our client focused approach and the fact that we can draw on in-house expertise in other areas to enhance our handling of matters in a cost effective way.
